Colin Townsend
I am a cultural anthropologist currently working on my PhD at the University of South Carolina at Columbia. I have been a drummer/percussionist for over thirty years, progressing throughout my life from elementary school orchestra to high school symphonic and marching band to several touring metal and rock bands. My lifelong passion for music, combined with a curiosity about other cultures, eventually led me to cultural anthropology and ethnomusicology. After completing my bachelorâs degree at Western Carolina University in 2006 I entered the graduate program at USC, earning a masterâs degree in cultural anthropology in 2008. At the moment, I am working hard towards the completion of my doctorate, with the eventual goal of teaching in a college or university while continuing my research in music and religion.
